Celebrating Tet: How Creative Traditions Build Character in Grade 3As we spend these first days of Lunar New Year together, we are reflecting on a meaningful moment just before the holiday began-a project that turned a simple peach blossom tree into a lesson on community and growth. The Power of Creative Craft in Early EducationIn the lead-up to Tet, our Grade 3 students decorated a peach blossom tree with their own hand-drawn illustrations. Each piece was carefully imagined, created, and placed on the branches. At this age, creative craft does more than just produce beautiful art; it strengthens focus and fine motor skills. More importantly, it builds patience, ownership, and quiet confidence in their own unique ideas.Mentorship and Leadership Across Grade LevelsSupported by Middle School volunteers, the activity became a shared experience across age groups. This peer-to-peer interaction is vital for social development:Younger students felt encouraged and supported.Older students practiced empathy and leadership in authentic, real-world ways.Learning the Joy of Giving BackWhen the tree was completed, students chose to bring it to the school office as a gift to decorate the reception area. In doing so, they learned a fundamental life lesson: what they create can contribute to a community. It taught them that giving is an essential part of growing.Wishing all families a peaceful and joyful Tet.
