At Westlink International School Hanoi, students are immersed in a multilingual environment that celebrates and embraces all cultural backgrounds, promoting the use of home languages in the classroom and among peers. As an IB World School, our whole community recognises the role of language in shaping identity, enhancing academic achievement and fostering global citizenship.Â
Our international school in Vietnam welcomes students from over 30 nationalities who speak a wide range of different languages, fostering a diverse and inclusive international community.
Students benefit from a core focus on English with the IB Primary Years and Middle Years programmes, enjoying classes and projects entirely in English.
New to English speakers grow fluency with personalised support from our English as an Additional Language (EAL) department through additional speaking and writing sessions, workshops, visual aids and differentiated instruction.
Students who choose the Bilingual Middle Years Programme gain from multilingual education with some classes held in English and other in Vietnamese, ensuring fluency in both.
At our international school in Hanoi, students are encouraged to use their home languages as a bridge to learning, supporting comprehension and engagement enhancing translanguaging.
Specialist tools, including Flash Academy, empower students with online multilingual resources and exercises that allow for enhanced linguistic confidence and ownership.
Our community often organises multicultural events, including International Mother Tongue Day and multilingual assemblies, that allow for immersive cultural sharing opportunities.

Middle Years & IB Diploma Programme

Through a rich mix of language experiences, students at our international bilingual school acquire confidence and fluency in different world languages, opening up to exciting opportunities all over the world.
Multilingualism is integrated into school life through multilingual classroom displays, a library with books in students' home languages, and signage with key phrases in English, Vietnamese, Japanese, Korean and Arabic.
Students can join our dedicated language clubs and enjoy fun book discussions in Korean or familiarise with the enchanting Spanish language and culture with peers, exchanging ideas and progressing together.
Our teaching faculty receive ongoing training in international education, with professional sessions focused on EAL strategies, differentiation and inclusive practices.
Our English as an Additional Language department creates Individual Language Plans (ILPs) in collaboration with classroom teachers, using the Flash Academy tracking platform to assess language proficiency achievements.
I would say our child's level of improvement in such a short time truly surprised our family. He now understands a lot of English and communicates more with us.
