Orientation Morning - 15 August 2025
Students aged 6 to 10 set key academic foundations and build essential life skills through the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). With an approach based on student-led activities, transdisciplinary learning and international-mindedness, students are empowered to take ownership of their journeys and become active participants in their communities.
Students take an active role in their learning from an early age through voice, choice and ownership. With IB PYP, learners build confidence, set goals and take meaningful action, developing skills that prepare them for success.
Students learn through the Approaches to Learning skills framework, grounded in explicit instruction and practice, developing key competencies including collaboration, research, self-management and critical thinking.
Students explore real-life questions and develop cognitive understanding through maths, science and languages. This approach nurtures learners with curiosity and the ability to apply learning in relevant ways confidently.
In our international school in Vietnam, students develop proficiency in multiple languages, including English, Vietnamese and Korean, supporting academic growth while becoming confident communicators with a global outlook.
Learners discover and nurture their talents in a fun way choosing from 50+ exciting extra-curricular activities, including sports, dance, arts and Vietnamese cultural workshops.
In the Primary Campus, learners thrive in thoughtfully designed and appropriate spaces that inspire exploration and creativity. Bright, welcoming classrooms are complemented by dedicated areas for play, enquiry, arts and movement.
Students develop leadership skills through a variety of roles and initiatives. They take on responsibilities as House Captains, represent the school in official sports teams, and participate in international events such as ISP Games.

Exploring the world
Students explore concepts in authentic and connected ways as they investigate their environment, communities and the natural world through enquiry.
Learners at Westlink embark on a journey through six transdisciplinary themes: Who We Are, Where We Are in Place and Time, How We Express Ourselves, How the World Works, How We Organize Ourselves, and Sharing the Planet.
By integrating Social Studies and Science across these broad themes, students develop a deep understanding of key concepts and essential skills while making meaningful connections between disciplines.
Unlocking a passion for words
Students develop reading, writing, listening and speaking skills within meaningful, real-world contexts through an approach that seamlessly integrates literacy in the Programme of Enquiry.
Learners progress by using language across areas of learning, with occasional focused lessons to support specific skill development. They become confident, effective communicators who can engage with a variety of texts and express their ideas clearly.
Developing logical thinking
Students learn mathematics through an enquiry-driven approach that builds conceptual understanding alongside practical application, aligned with the IB Primary Years Programme curriculum framework. Rules and methods are introduced within meaningful units, allowing learners to explore patterns, relationships and problem-solving strategies in real-world contexts.
In addition to integrated learning, students also benefit from focused mathematics sessions designed to build specific skills and reinforce key concepts. This balanced approach ensures a strong foundation in mathematical understanding while nurturing confidence and curiosity about how maths connects to everyday life.
Enhancing wellbeing
Students nurture their emotional wellbeing, social skills and physical health. Through enquiries and reflective practice, they learn to build positive relationships, develop self-awareness, make responsible choices and engage in healthy lifestyles.

Freeing the inner self

Embracing cultural roots
Vietnamese language learning supports both native speakers in deepening their understanding and mastery of the language, and non-native speakers in acquiring foundational skills through engaging, inquiry-based experiences.
Students develop proficiency in listening, speaking, reading and writing, tailored to their language background and learning needs. This inclusive approach fosters strong communication skills, cultural appreciation and a sense of connection to the local community.

In the Primary section, we blend the ISPâs five Learning Pillars with the IB PYP framework. The PYPâs inquiry-based approach promotes strong academics and critical thinking, supports multilingual language development, and builds key life skills like communication and resilience. Its focus on global contexts encourages international awareness, while preparing students with the skills and attitudes needed for future learning and success.

Studentsâ knowledge, communication, and skills are assessed through a range of formative and summative tasks aligned with the IBâs developmental standards. Progress is tracked across the transdisciplinary units, encouraging learners to make connections between multiple subject areas.
Students collect work samples in individual portfolios, which document their growth over time and support reflection. In their final year of the PYP, students complete the Exhibition, a culminating collaborative project that showcases their enquiry skills, understanding and ability to communicate learning effectively. This project emphasizes deep research, reflection and presentation.
In our PYP School, students develop life competencies through the Approaches to Learning (ATL) framework, which focuses on essential skills including communication, social interaction, self-management, research and critical  thinking.
Students are empowered to become independent, resilient and collaborative learners, important abilities they will continue to build on as they progress through the IB programmes.
Continuing with the Happy Confident programme, learners enjoy engaging lessons and explore tools to develop a positive mindset, strong relationships and a sense of belonging to our school community.
Students enjoy English as the primary language of education and peer interaction, while Vietnamese is offered as an additional language to support cultural connection and communication.
Learners from various language backgrounds are encouraged to celebrate and share their home languages through extracurricular programmes, such as the Korean Book Club.
Reflecting our multicultural vision, even our youngest learners are immersed in multilingualism from the start, participating in cultural celebrations with their families and engaging with classmates in their home languages. This rich linguistic environment fosters inclusion, respect and global awareness.
Primary students engage with peers from all over the world with ISP's International Learning Programmes (ILOS), including ISP Artists, ISP Chess Masters, ISP Changemakers, ISP Filmmakers and ISP Scientists, confidently leading initiatives and having fun while developing an international mindset.
In their final year of the Primary Years Programme, students engage in the PYP Exhibition, a culminating, collaborative inquiry project that brings together the knowledge, skills and attitudes they have developed throughout their primary years.
Supported by teachers and mentors, primary students investigate real-world issues they are passionate about, taking ownership of their learning and demonstrating agency, research skills and teamwork. The Exhibition is presented to families, peers, and the wider community,. It marks a meaningful transition to the Middle Years Programme and a proud milestone in each studentâs academic journey.
Through an enquiry-based approach, students take ownership of their learning by exploring ideas, asking meaningful questions and actively constructing understanding. Learners investigate concepts by connecting prior knowledge to new experiences, making predictions, collecting and analysing data and sharing their findings in thoughtful ways. Along the way, they refine their thinking, test theories, research information, solve problems and confidently express and defend their perspectives.
